Many fresh young stars speckle NGC 6729, a stellar nursery that is about 400 light-years away. The nursery also contains bright clouds of gas and dust as well as dark clouds of cold dust, which are the raw materials for additional stars. Energy from the hottest of the young stars compresses some of the remaining gas and dust, helping trigger the birth of new stars. But it also erodes some of the material, preventing the birth of other stars. [ESO]
