Beautiful Reflection

Hot young stars light up a nebula known as M78 in the constellation Orion. The starlight reflects off of tiny particles of dust in the cloud to create the beautiful blue and pink fields, which are shown in near-natural color. Dark lanes of cold, thick dust weave through the nebula, which is about 1,350 light-years away. This image was shot through a 2.2-meter telescope at La Silla Observatory, Chile. [ESO/Igor Chekalin]
