This false-color Hubble Space Telescope image of a stellar nursery in a nearby galaxy looks like a cosmic fantasyland. Clouds of colorful gas and dark dust are collapsing to give birth to new stars in the nursery, which is known as NGC 2074. It is about 170,000 light-years away in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy that is passing by the Milky Way. The energy of hot, newborn stars (which look bright pink) is blowing away much of the gas and dust, sculpting the giant nebula into fantastic shapes. The red color represents the glow of sulfur atoms, blue is hydrogen, and green is oxygen. [NASA/ESA/Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)]
