“Scientists think that ice will probably disappear from the North Pole for the first time by this summer 2008 due to the global warming. We would like to express our solidarity with the hungry – and probably angry – polar bears that will soon reach our lands (?) trying to find some dry land and food. What about architecture?”
This was how we started presenting our project - LONDON . BREATH . S - for a floating art gallery competition on river Thames in London. We were saying something like: “Hey, if architecture isn’t able to radically change his relation with nature, we’ll soon have some angry polar bears in London!”.
A few months after this competition, it’s surprising and very funny to see that 3d production experts “Hothouse IWG” created the Polar Bear and cub sculpture, seen floating down the Thames on Monday.

unlawfully occupy - Free Tibet
A Tibetet Segítő Társaság szombati közleményében arról tájékoztatta az MTI-t, hogy pénteken a késő esti órákban a Bevándorlási és Állampolgársági Hivatal (BAH) munkatársai felkeresték a Magyarországon élő tibeti menekülteket, valamint szabályos munkavállalási engedéllyel bíró tibeti tanárokat, és beidézték őket a BAH irodájába. Emellett a kínai miniszterelnök látogatásának helyszínein a rendőrök megakadályozták a "demokratikus országokban jogszerű" tiltakozási módokat, több Tibetért tüntető aktivistát inzultáltak és ellehetetlenítettek, megakadályozva, hogy kifejezzék véleményüket - írták.

The Story of Dream
Dream marks the fulfilment of a long-held ambition for St.Helens.
The local community had yearned for something to fill the void left by the colliery since its closure, while the idea of a gateway public art feature was first articulated in 2003 in the Borough's private sector led regeneration strategy.
Six years on and Dream has not only become a reality, drawing thousands of new visitors and both popular and critical acclaim, but has also been the star of a prime-time Channel 4 TV series and been nominated for the prestigious Marsh Sculpture Prize, awarded to the best public sculpture of the year.
There have been challenges and hurdles along the way, but ultimately Dream is a triumph, a stunning visual feast, and a spectacular object lesson in the "art of them... possible", demonstrating what can be achieved when committed people with a shared vision work together towards a common goal.

ArcelorMittal Orbit by Anish Kapoor
Artist Anish Kapoor has won a commission to design a 115m high public artwork at Olympic Park in London, to be built as part of London’s Olympic Games in 2012.

ANISH KAPOOR TO DESIGN ICONIC LANDMARK FOR OLYMPIC PARK
The ArcelorMittal Orbit set to become UK’s largest sculpture. The Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, today unveiled the artist and design chosen to create a spectacular new visitor attraction in the Olympic Park.
Award winning London-based artist Anish Kapoor has been given the commission of a lifetime to design the spectacular new public attraction in the Olympic Park. The stunning artwork, to be entitled ‘The ArcelorMittal Orbit’, will ensure the Park remains an unrivalled visitor destination following the 2012 Games, providing the key Olympic legacy Mayor of London Boris Johnson envisaged for the East End.
The breathtaking sculpture – thought to be the tallest in the UK – will consist of a continuous looping lattice of tubular steel. Standing at a gigantic 115m, it will be 22m taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York and offer unparalleled views of the entire 250 acres of the Olympic Park and London’s skyline from a special viewing platform. Visitors will be able to take a trip up the statuesque structure in a huge lift and will have the option of walking down the spiralling staircase.
One of the world’s most distinguished contemporary artists, Turner Prize winning Anish Kapoor studied in London, where he is now based. He is well known for his use of rich pigment and imposing, yet popular works, such as the vast, fleshy and trumpet-like Marsyas, which filled the Tate’s Turbine Hall as part of the Unilever Series, the giant reflecting, pod like sculpture Cloud Gate in Chicago’s Millennium Park and his recent record breaking show at the Royal Academy, the most successful exhibition ever presented by a contemporary artist in London.
Anish Kapoor’s proposal has been developed in collaboration with one of the world’s leading structural designers, Cecil Balmond of Arup. Balmond, who trained and lives in London, is known for his innovative work on some of the greatest contemporary buildings in the world, such as the CCTV building in Beijing, as well as numerous Serpentine Gallery pavilion commissions. The two began working together on the Marsyas project in 2002 and have become renowned for their ambitious, large-scale public art projects.
ArcelorMittal will fund up to £16million of the £19.1million project with the outstanding £3.1 million provided by the London Development Agency. The unveiling also marks ArcelorMittal’s announcement to become a tier two sponsor of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to support he infrastructure and success of 2012.)
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell agreed the commission in partnership with Mr Mittal after bringing together a panel from the art and design world to advise on a long list of proposals. Anish Kapoor’s team made an outstanding proposal that would be accessible and leave a fitting 2012 legacy.
Anish Kapoor said: ‘I am deeply honoured to be invited to undertake this challenging commission. I am particularly attracted to it because of the opportunity to involve members of the public in a particularly close and personal way. It is the commission of a lifetime.’

The attraction will stand in the southern part of the Olympic Park between the Stadium and Aquatics Centre and will open in time for the 2012 Games. After completion, the Olympic Park Legacy Company will take ownership and run the visitor attraction.

first, business, and economy classes with lifestyle 'zones', all housed in a panoramic transparent body designed

regarding the transparent body, airbus head of engineering charles champion states:
'the idea is to have a technology for the fuselage that's a bit like bones of birds that allows to have large spaces
that can turn transparent, in order to look outside and 'live' the panorama in which you are flying.'

3D Projections for Airplane Learning
Winner of the 2011 Gold Design Award of Germany (aka the country’s highest distinction for design, aka the “Design Oscar”) is the following project: Lufthansa Brand Academy 360degree Tower project. This architectural masterpiece was designed by Dan Pearlman, Berlin brand and experience group, and consists of a 360° projection in the tower of Brand Academy. That’s right, a spacial experience consisting of three hundred and sixty degrees of digital projection magic.
With this project, Lufthansa is able to bring their collective knowledge together and present it to 25,000 employees and executive in a fantastic and engaging way. The subject under examination here is the local and global connections of international air traffic – much better with teeny tiny airplanes flying overhead, yes?
Berlin-based interactive firm WHITEvoid is responsible for the 3D visualization for this gigantic project. With this project, students are able to see real-time 3D visualizations of 16,000 daily flights, the entire system of viewing these flights completely interactive. This project is located in Frankfurt Seheim, the Lufthansa Brand Academy offering its employees a floor area of 1,100 sq meeters in which to train. Gorgeous!

Princess of whales: How a naked female scientist tries to tame belugas in the freezing Arctic

Braving sub-zero temperatures, she has thrown caution — and her clothes — to the wind to tame two beluga whales in a unique and controversial experiment.
Natalia Avseenko, 36, was persuaded to strip naked as marine experts believe belugas do not like to be touched by artificial materials such as diving suits.
The skilled Russian diver took the plunge as the water temperature hit minus 1.5 degrees Centigrade.

Belugas are famed for the way in which their faces are able to convey human-like expressions. Certainly Matrena and Nilma seemed to enjoy frolicking with Natalia.
The taming of the whales happened in the Murmansk Oblast region in the far north-west of Russia at the shore of the White Sea near the Arctic Circle branch of the Utrish Dophinarium.
